IKEA Run

I took a trip to IKEA yesterday and was reminded of how much I love that place.  The store seems to have evolved a lot since its early days.  Not everything has that "ikea" look like it used to.  You know, bright clear plastic furniture and Scandinavian details.  I was pleasantly surprised.  I picked up this vintage inspired alarm clock for just $5.99.  It was a frivolous indulgence but I don't regret my purchase.  It will be the perfect addition to my dorm room in the fall.

Lately, I have found myself oddly attracted to gold sandals.  Tacky? Maybe, but if worn right I think they can be the perfect addition to a summer wardrobe.  Here are my favorites...

2. Braided Slingback Sandals, Old Navy: $9.50

Staying Organized

A lot of my friends have really mastered the art of keeping a cell phone calendar.  But for me, keeping an old fashioned weekly planner is an absolute must. It is the only way that I can remember the things I need to do for the day and the places I need to be. Without it I can say good bye to productivity and hello to hours of watching trash TV.  I recently went on a hunt for the perfect weekly planner because my [much loved] school agenda finally ran out of pages for the year.  Here is what I found at Barns and Noble for $6.36 (20% off the original price)!

The criteria...
√ not too big, not too small - I want it to fit in all my handbags but have plenty of space to jot down everything I need to accomplish for the day. This one is 5"X8"

√ cute and girly - Every time I whip out my planner I want it to be a breath of fresh air.

√ all the bells and whistles - It lists all the major and minor holidays and even gives the lunar phases.  This one also has a complete calender of the coming months  on each set of pages [see picture below].  In the back it has maps, conversion tables, a mini address book, and best of all blank pages for notes.

√ affordable - This puppy is going EVERYWHERE with me so I don't want to feel terrible if I spill a few drops a tea on it at Starbucks or drop it while rushing around town.

√ nothing to close it - I've found that all those added button closures and cutesy bands [that wrap around the book to keep it closed] are really not needed.

It passed the test!

The Perfect Summer Breakfast: Smoothies

On hot summer mornings in California the last thing I want to do is turn on the stove to make eggs or cook a steaming bowl of oatmeal.  After a while cold cereal gets a little monotonous.  The perfect solution: a delicious [and healthy] smoothie! Here is how I make mine...

What you will need:
1 medium sized banana
1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
1/4 cup plain yogurt
1 heaping teaspoon of ground flaxseed
1 heaping teaspoon of wheat germ
protein powder (optional)
1 cup of milk

Now, just throw all of these ingredients in the blender and wallah!   I like to use my knock off Magic Bullet blender.  It makes the perfect amount for one person.

Note: When making my smoothies, I am not precise in measuring the ingredients.  These are simply suggested amounts.  Add more or less milk to achieve your desired consistency.

ENJOY!

DIY: Jewelry Organization

The other day my mom and I were brainstorming about the functionality of our jewelry storage. You know... that knot of necklace chains that are impossible to untangle. Here are some of the ways that I like to store my jewelry!

I use a vase with a long neck to hold a few of my favorite bracelets and then put a few rings in the vase. I love this solution because it is functional and pretty in my bathroom!

A Ferrero brand chocolate box is the perfect container to store earrings and rings.

This is a tea chest that I got for Christmas last year. I used up all the tea but the box is perfect for necklaces, matches, bracelets etc.

Hope this gave you some ideas! Good luck in your jewelry organizing ventures!
