Fall, Please Come Sooner!

Do you know what is worse than having 113 degree weather?  Having 113 degree weather while living in an unairconditioned dorm and having to walk about a mile to class.  In order to beat the heat, my wardrobe has consisted of sundresses, shorts, and flip flops for the past few days.  I've worn all my summer dresses and I now have blisters on my feet due to excessive flip flop wearage.  Needless to say, I am ready for fall.  I have been dreaming of boots, scarves, and warm nail polish colors.  My pea coat is calling my name from the back of the closet.  Until the weather cools down, I will just continue dreaming of these things...

Fun mugs.
Homemade quiche and tea around the holidays.

Dorm Room Decor

Over the last few weeks I have done several posts about things I have been making for my dorm room.  So, I thought I would show you guys the final product!

 Move in day!

Tripple Wrap Bracelet

It's been a while since I've done some serious jewelry making.  In the past, I've done a lot of wire and bead work, which hasn't been in style for quite some time now.  Thus my pliers, beads, and other jewelry supplies have been greatly neglected over that last few years.  It wasn't until recently, when I saw some Chan Luu pieces (which run upwards of two hundred dollars), that I once again became excited to delve into my craft closet's beading drawers.  Today I made this wrap bracelet with a button clasp using leather, turquoise beads, and twine.  It shouts edgy modern and I can not wait to contrast it with a feminine summer dress!

Textual Design

I am a real sucker for textual designs.  I love the boldness that a word or phrase can have when presented in an artistic way.  Here are some examples...
Lisa's "& chair" on her blog called Ninaribena Makes...
Barb's "EAT table" on Design Sponge
Prints from Keep Calm Gallery

Late last night I got a stroke of creativity and decided to make my own textual art using a piece of navy suede, cream color paint, and cursive stencils.
Here is what I ended up with!
It says "HI."

Solution to Empty Nest Syndrome

In my family, whenever a kid goes off to college we subconsciously fill the void by getting a new pet. This practice first began two years ago when we got a lab puppy about a week after my brother left for school. This year, we picked up a little kitten two weeks before I move out. It's the perfect distraction for those still at home and it makes the kid want to come home to see the little critter.

When my brother left for school we got this cute little guy...

Now I'm leaving for college soon and we got this adorable bundle of fur...

Isn't he/she (we aren't sure which one yet) cute?! What's even cutter is that its name quite possibly might be Truffles. We haven't committed to it yet because we are seeing if it fits his personality. I'm going to miss him when I'm at school! Luckily I'll get to see him on Skype.

Crave or Save: Fall Boots

Crave:
Frye 'Harness 12R' Boot from Nordstrom, $217.95
Save:
Mossimo Katherine Leather Engineer Boots from Target $39.99 (regularly $49.99)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for splurging on a good pair of classic boots. But in this case, the Target boots at less than 1/5 the price of the Frye brand ones, sound pretty appealing! I can not believe how similar they are. I can hardly tell them apart.  They both have an 11" boot shaft height and heal heights that differ by only a fourth of an inch.  I have been on the hunt for a good leather boot that I can wear this fall. Something that will look great with a cute summer dress on warmer days and grungy chic with jeans and a chunky sweater in the winter. I think I found my perfect match!
