Dress Shop.

Some past sewing projects...
Matching dresses that I made for my lovely cousin Amber and I.

Although I have dabbled in practically every art and craft medium that exists in Michael's craft store, I'd have to say that sewing is really my favorite.  I love the practicality of a sewn piece.  I love the feeling of accomplishment when I finish a project.  I love when I'm wearing something that I have made and someone asks me what store I bought it at.  I love shopping for fabric.  I love looking back at some old sewing projects and saying to myself "what on earth was I thinking."  This summer, I want to experiment with quilting.  How cute is this Bloom Quilt by Amy Butler?!

Meet the family.

This is Hayley.  She like kisses, oranges, and hedgehogs (cotton stuffed ones, that is).
This is Jasmine.  She is a ninja.
This is Oliver.  He is an old soul and the survivor of a rattle snake bite to the nose and has a lasting crook to prove it.

I get to see all three of these lovelies tomorrow!
Have an extraordinary weekend, my friends!

Its that time again... Finals.

There were several times today that I found myself feeling like this.  I've got a jam packed two weeks ahead of me full of work, studying, and trying to fit last goodbyes in there somewhere.  Praying for endurance and peace.

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. -Philippians 4:13

Sidenote: Home Alone is such a classic movie!

Summer Vacation (t-minus 16 days!)

My first year here at UCLA has so far exceeded my expectations.  It has been an amazing year to say the least.  I have learned so much about God and about myself and have met the most amazing people and found some of my best friends here.  I'll be staying in LA for a month and half over the summer vacation to work but I dread having to say goodbye to all my friends who are going home.  It is definitely a very bitter sweet time.  At the same time, I am extremely excited for summer break!  Initially, I didn't have much planned but God really has provided me with some exciting opportunities and I am so excited to see what he is going to do with the next few months.  One of the things that I am most excited about is going to Colorado with my family for vacation.  These photos from the place we will be staying at are making me count down the days till finals are over and the relaxation can begin!

Why, hello there.

This is what I do in between classes... Sit by the law library and watch the squirrels play.  It is pretty much the cutest thing ever!

Happy Friday to you!

The Essentials.

Most of the time, I don't carry a whole lot in my purse.  I'm definitely not one to collect miscellaneous items in my bag for months.  There are a few items however, that I feel absolutely empty without...

1. Cell phone: Pantech Link
2. Starbucks Sugar-Free Classic Mints (peppermint)
3. Earl Grey Bigalow tea bag to use with free hot water from coffee shops
4. Chapstick (Carmex is my favorite!) and lip gloss
5. Cards... Bruin card, room key, gift cards, etc.
6. Key chain with flash drive and rewards cards

Note: my camera would be included in this array of goodies too but I needed it to take the picture...
What are your essentials?

Spring Rain.

UCLA students headed to class in rain gear.

Its a chilly and rainy day here in LA.  While I
know I should take advantage of these last cool
days and put together a cute bundled up outfit
before I pack up my winter clothes and the hot
summer weather kicks in, I find myself in yoga
pants and running shoes...  Today is all about
productivity and practicality.  I do however love
the idea of these Top-Sider Rubber Shoes from
Sperry.  I think that they would be just perfect
for rainy spring weather like we are having today.

D-Da-Dance Party. Dance Party.

Who said formals were just for high schoolers?  This weekend Campus Crusade had its annual "CRU Formal."  The night was filled with getting all glammed up, dancin to music that our parents grew up listening to, and ended with an awesome time of worship.  It was such a great time and really spruced up a weekend that would otherwise be filled with only work and studying.

I am generally a very calm, laid back kind of a person.  It takes a lot to annoy me.  That being said, there are a few things that just BUG BUG BUG me.

  • Really windy weather when I have my hair down and have just put lip gloss on.  Girls, you know what I mean.
  • Three dollar ATM charge fees.  Grrr!
  • A single cricket chirping in my bedroom at incredibly unpredictable and obnoxious intervals at night when I am trying to sleep.  I'll relax, thinking that it has finally decided to stop and then all of the sudden, the chirping comes back and I know it is going to be a very long night.
  • Parents who yell at their children in public places (anywhere for that matter).
  • When you are watching a rented DVD and the picture gets all scrambled so that you can't finish the movie...
Yeah, that's about it.  I hope that this does not come across as pessimistic.  Just a little rambling about life's little annoyances.  They are nothing in the grand scheme of things.  There are far more things that make me really really happy!

Fun fact:  Today I was in the Daily Bruin, UCLA's student newspaper, which just happens to be the third most widely circulated newspaper in Los Angeles.  "Why?" you may ask.  Here's what happened...  While studying the other day on a lovely grassy knoll, a woman from the paper approached me and asked me my three favorite fictional characters (from a book, movie, tv show, etc.).  Hard question, right?  After about two minutes of contemplation (I felt so bad to keep this poor girl waiting) I came up with:
1.) Charlie Brown
2.) Chuck from NBC's hit show Chuck
3.) Belle from Beauty and the Beast

And so, I pose this question to you...  Reader, what are your three favorite fictional characters?

Work Space.

Check out these awesome work spaces from Apartment Therapy's 5 Best Craft Rooms

One of the things that I miss the most about living at home, aside from being close to my family of course, is access to my well stocked craft closets. Ahh, how I miss them and the creativity that they inspire in me! Every avid crafter knows the value in having a readily available work space. Can you relate to this? While I have attempted to bring various scrapbooking supplies and other crafts back to school with me, its just not the same. I miss my sewing machine, my shelves of fabric, my vintage dress form, my neatly organized containers filled with pins, threads, scissors, etc., and my beading/jewelry collection. I absolutely cannot wait to do some serious crafting when I go home this summer!

Travel Lust: Greece

Isn't it just beautiful?  I can't think of a place with more beautiful scenery, a richer culture, or more delicious food.  My fascination with Greece began back in middle school when I read the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series by Ann Brashares in which one of the main characters visits her family in Greece.  Since then, I have taken a class on ancient Greek history and have fallen even more in love with the place.  Greece trip after graduation?  Sounds good to me!

Dear Diary...

About two years ago, I began journaling.  At first I just journaled about what I did in the day and soon I realized that my life was not all that exciting or eventful.  Instead, I began journaling prayers to God.  The best part of journaling to God is looking back at how He has been working in your life.  If I hadn't kept a journal, I probably wouldn't have remembered all the ways that He had proven his faithfulness, mercy, and love for me.  I've almost filled up my current journal which means that it is time to start the fun task of finding the perfect new journal.  I'll be using it for a while so I want to make sure that it is special and something that will motivate me to write.  Here are some that I'm really loving...

two... Leather Embroidered Journal-Barns & Nobel, $17
three... Prospero Journal-Anthropologie, $18
four... Roma Lussa Journal-Kate's Paperie, $75

Happy Mother's Day Weekend!
I have been blessed with such a wonderful mom, who is my best friend.  I can not wait to celebrate her this weekend with the rest of my family in LA!

I came across this little gem the other day when I was going through my picasa albums and it made me smile really big.  It is probably my favorite picture ever.
Love you Mama Bear!

Grooving to the Music.

To be completely honest, I don't think that I could truthfully classify myself as a "music person."  You know, like that super trendy friend that we all have who goes to small venue concerts every weekend of bands that you have never even heard of before.  That friend who spent the equivalent of what I spend in a year on a single set of Bose speakers.  That friend who has to upgrade their 32 GB ipod because it is completely filled up with thousands of songs.  We all have at least one friend who fits the profile.

While I can't call myself a "music person," I definitely do like good tunes.  Despite the fact that my taste in music has changed a lot over the years (confession: I went through a phase in high school where all I listened to was rap.  If you know me, you might find this hard to believe.), there are a few bands/artists that I find myself always coming back to.  The classics, if you will...
                   Jackson Browne                                    Counting Crows
                           James Taylor                                          Amos Lee
                   The Eagles                                             Jack Johnson

Deviled Eggs

Last weekend for Easter my mom and I made deviled eggs from this recipe.  They were an absolutely a hit.  We made a last minute decision to add pieces of bacon on top which made them even tastier.  Tip:  When adding the filling to the hollowed out halved egg, use a plastic bag with the end cut off to pipe out a dollop instead of trying to use a spoon.
Steps to the perfect hard boiled egg:

1. put eggs in pot and add COLD water so that the eggs are submerged.
2. place pot with water and eggs on stove and wait for water to boil.
3. once water has come to a boil, remove pan and let sit for 12 minutes.
4. After this drain water and run eggs under cold water.

Works every time!

The Gospel

This video was played several weeks ago at one of our Campus Crusade weekly meetings.  It is such a powerful and creative presentation of the gospel that can be used to reach a new generation of seekers.  Enjoy!
