Chocolate Souffl├ęs

How good does this Mini Chocolate Souffl├ęs look?!  Best part is that is that its not all that bad for us.  No butter, oil, or sugar.  I am thrilled to give it a try this week.  I'm a huge fan of faux desserts, like this one, because they satisfy my sweet tooth without giving me that massive sugar rush.  I'll let ya know how it turns out!

3 Things: To try this week.

Happy Monday! So I had this idea for starting to do blog posts at the beginning of the week with 3 things that I am looking forward to trying for that week.  It might be a new exotic recipe, a daring fashion statement, or simply a new perspective on life...  The goal is to explore uncharted territory with courage and zeal!  Here are is my list for this week:

1.  Fashion: Wear a silk scarf as a head wrap.

So true!  Image credit: Uber Humor.
2.  Food: No dessert unless its REALLY going to be worth it.

3.  Experiences: Giving a class presentation with enthusiasm even though I am not the least bit interested in what I am presenting on.

What are you most looking forward to trying this week?

Writer's BLOCK.

Writer's block.  Its an unfortunate aspect of this blog thing that I've been doing for the last few years.  You see, as a blogger, I feel it is my duty to keep you, the reader, entertained and amused. Problem is, my life isn't all that exciting.  Luckily, when I find myself in the most mundane of days, I can infuse my posts with a little creativity with the hopes of inspiring you in your own creative pursuits.  Here, another problem arises.  I'm not always all that creative.  And thus on days like today, when I virtually have nothing particularly noteworthy to say, I thank you for continued support and dedication to reading this silly little blog of mine.  Here's to more creative days ahead!

In an effort to make you feel a little less regretful of wasting the last 45 seconds of your life reading that, I leave you with the beautiful sight that I was graced to encounter yesterday afternoon.

Creative Inspiration: Recycled Door.

Door hung horizontally to function as a headboard.

I love the idea of recycling an old door to give it new purpose and life.  Doors are interesting architectural pieces of art because they have strong lines and are often weathered and worn.  These door transformations can add so much character and charm to a room.  You can bet I'll be keeping an eye out for that perfect rustic door on a street curb or in a thrift store; and when I find that gem, I will snatch it up!  And then I'll make a cute little coffee table for my living room.  Just goes to show that one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Happiness is: A clean craft closet.

Sometimes, when I'm feeling a lack of creativity, the best thing I can do to conjure up some inspiration is to organize my craft supplies.  This was precisely what I did a few weeks ago and it resulted in 3 completed craft projects.  I'd say I need to organize a little more often!

Rest.

This weekend I was reminded of the importance of rest.  Last week, after a tiring and stressful few days of school, I cleared my weekend schedule and headed east for some rest and relaxation at home.  It was just delightful to hang with family and catch up on life.  I find that sometimes I am most productive on days when I do not set out to accomplish any specific goals.  This was true of this weekend.  I was able to get a lot done (laundry, grocery shopping, internship application, some studying), but they didn't feel like chores.  This might also have something to do with the fact that I was surrounded by 3 pretty awesome people!

Now, I feel recharged and ready to face the week ahead of me!  I am so thankful that God provides time for us to rest in his presence despite the conditions of the world around us.  This weekend, I was blessed to be in a restful environment-home.  However, it is also reassuring to know that even in times of chaos and turbulence, when we can not physically escape the situation, God is present and willing to offer us rest if we come to him.

"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." - Matthew 11:28-30

Speaking of ice cream... how cute are these spoons?!

My recipe for a perfect morning.

This morning was especially great.  Leisurely yet productive.  Here's how it went...

1.  An early-ish start at 7a.m.
2.  Good workout at the gym.
3.  Cooking breakfast with the roomies and then all sitting down to eat together.
4.  Bible reading.
5.  Off to class to face the day.

I sure wish all mornings could be so sweet!

Winter Loves.

The freakishly warm weather lately has left me feeling like springtime should be right around the corner.  In the spirit of it all I even bought a dress, which I have come to the realization that I probably won't be able to wear comfortably for another two months or so...  But surprise, surprise- its not too late to enjoy winter weather (if it ever comes to us here in SoCal, that is).  In fact, February, the rainiest month of the year, has yet to come.  And while the low 80 degree weather of recent hasn't exactly left me with that urge to pile on the layers and get cozied up with a hot drink and blankets, I anticipate the promise of the fast approaching rainy weekend and the opportunity to embrace the things that make me love this time of year the most.  My winter loves include:

1.  Wearing scarves with everything.
2.  Curling up with warm blankets to take naps.
3.  Wearing boots 4 out of the 7 days in a week.
4.  Small-earthy-handmade mugs that hold just the right amount of coffee.

Valentines Day (month) Celebration.

Baked heart shaped sugar cookies.

Believe it or not, I've already started to get into the Valentines Day spirit.  What might be even more surprising, is the fact that it just might make the list of my top 4 holidays.  What could be better than a day to celebrate LOVE?!  Not only romantic love but also the love that you have for family and friends and best of all Jesus.  Oh and the fact that you get to eat lots of chocolate and decorate with red and pink.... I like those things too!  So pull out the red construction paper and doilies (that you'll probably never use) and start making some valentines to brighten your friends' day!

Sewed heart sheet music garland (soon to make an appearance in the apartment).

Don't wait until February 14th to start celebrating love!

White Dish Collection.

Take a look at this beautiful collection of dishes.  All white. All mix matched.  A perfect combination, indeed.  Over my winter break, which I spent at home, I started my very own collection of white, mix-matched dishware.  I had so much fun scouring my local thrift stores to find unique and quality pieces that met this criteria.  In the process, I learned a lot about what brands of dishes to look for and how to identify quality pieces.  I love the idea that each dish has a history and story of its own.  I have a long way to go fill a set of shelves like in my inspiration photo above, but it is the process of putting it all together that I love the most!

The start to my own dish collection.  Note the cute doggies in the background.  That's Oliver and Haylie.  Quite the models, right?

DIY: Pillow Update.

One of my winter break projects was giving a few outdated (but quality) pillows a little makeover.  This was such a fun project with a grand spanking total of $3 dollars (and a raid through my craft closet) to complete.

Pillow #1: Pillow Face Lift Technique.

For this pillow, I simply hand sewed a large square of fabric (with finished edges, of course) to the face of a pillow, leaving a two inch border hanging off the edges.  Finishes it off with a few embroidered patches (I hot glued mine on... don't tell) and you have an Anthropologie worthy pillow!

Pillow #2: Sweater Pillow

I found this great hand knitted sweater at a thrift store where everything in the store with a blue tag was half off.  And would you know that this gem did indeed have a blue tag!  So exciting! Best of all, the sweater fit just right around the pillow I had in mind for it.  All that was left to do was cut off the excess fabric above the armpits, reinforce the cut off knitted fabric with a zig zag stitch on the sewing machine, and finally hand stitch the top and bottom.

Pillows are such a great way to update a room without making any permanent or expensive changes.  A perfect solution for us apartment renters!

Martha's Weddings.

Every time I visit the Martha Stewart website, I ALWAYS get sucked into looking at her wedding website (for way too long).  Its just too good to resist, ladies!  My very favorite documented weddings on the site, are the ones that are full of creative and crafty touches that can be replicated without spending a lot of money.  It just goes to show that you really can have a beautiful wedding that reflects your personal style while still sticking to a tight budget!

Happy New Year!

Hey ya'll!  Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season!  I sure did.  I spent lots of time with family, watching old home videos, pleasure reading while listening to Christmas music, and sampling from the gargantuan assortment of Christmas cookies, candies, and nougats that made it into our house.

I am pleased to tell you that my lack of blog posts is good evidence of all the crafting that I've been doing lately.  While I feel slightly guilty for not posting in over a week, I know that a good creative spell was just what I needed.  I am so excited to share with my bloggin' pals what I've been making this week.

Speaking of the holidays, is anyone else as enthusiastic about New Years as I am??  I am always so re-energized by the excitement brought on by a brand new year.  The chance to set new goals and get reorganized.  Plus, I get to use my new weekly planner (I finally joined the Moleskine club... and there is no going back)!

Happy New Year!
(even though its the 6th! *wink*)
